The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the members of the Lower Duwamish Waterway Group, including King County, the City of Seattle, and Boeing, have begun sediment cleanup of the Lower Duwamish Waterway Superfund site. This environmental project will address sediment pollution and help enhance the health of the Duwamish River.
Starting in the waterway’s upper reach, construction activities extend from the South 102nd Street bridge downstream to Duwamish Waterway Park. King County hired Pacific Pile and Marine as the lead contractor to carry out the cleanup for this segment. Over the next three years, in-water activities will occur during construction seasons from October to February, ending in February 2027. After the Lower Duwamish upper reach cleanup is complete, construction will continue downstream toward the south end of Harbor Island over the next decade.Â
