Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-MN, was scheduled to give the keynote speech Saturday night in Bellevue at the annual banquet for the Council on American-Islamic Relations' Washington chapter (CAIR-WA).

But first, she appeared at another event hosted by CAIR on Friday night in Georgetown. The four-term progressive congresswoman, who represents Minneapolis and parts of its suburbs, spoke to an audience of more than 100 people, many who appeared to be part of the Somali diaspora.

Much of the conversation was in Somali, according to an attendee.

Omar has endorsed the executive director of CAIR-WA, Imraan Siddiqi, who is running for the Washington House of Representatives in District 32-Position 2, which encompasses parts of Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace and Shoreline. He is challenging the incumbent Lauren Davis, also a Democrat.
