King County International Airport-Boeing Field is planning for future growth. That includes moving a runway that could be 75 feet closer to residents.

Airport officials want to rehabilitate an aging runway and relocate a taxiway about 50 to 75 feet to the west to meet FAA standards, according to an airport factsheet. In addition, the project would include:

  • Relocating part of the perimeter fence.

  • Land acquisition

  • Removing and relocating the airport traffic control tower and an aircraft rescue and firefighting building.

  • Constructing stormwater facilities

  • Tenant and landslide mitigation

An open house for the public is planned for this Wednesday evening to discuss plans, environmental impact and gather input from Georgetown community members and other interested groups. People can ask questions and raise issues they think should be part of the proposed project's environmental assessment. The session is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the KCIA Flight Service Station, 6526 Ellis Ave. S.

Project materials will be available online after the event at: kingcounty.gov/airport/taxiway-b-nepa
