Murder Conviction Appealed

Attorneys for John Marcel Williams challenge his double murder conviction

A man convicted of double murder is appealing the conviction, according to King County and Washington Appellate Court records.

John Marcel Williams, 46, was sentenced in late May to 54 years in prison for the October 30, 2022, murders of two people at the Martin Court Apartments in Georgetown. A King County jury had convicted Williams in March of brutally stabbing Maryanne Wooden, 55, and Howard Hicks, 53, more than 50 times each.

The case gained attention because Williams committed the crime just two days after being released from jail on a separate case. In that case, he assaulted people at a restaurant and threatened to kill someone but only served 56 days after the case was reduced to a misdemeanor.

Court records indicate Williams is appealing the conviction. He is currently held at the Washington Corrections Center in Shelton.
