An SDOT E Marginal Way S paving project is expected to begin March 2027

The Seattle Department of Transportation announced it will begin repaving East Marginal Way S from 1st Avenue S to the Seattle/Tukwila border in early 2027. The project is estimated to last a year.


With the repaving, the major thoroughfare will get a makeover. Key changes include:


  • A redesigned right-hand turn from East Marginal Way S to 4th Avenue S with a widened curb for turning trucks;

  • A reduction from two southbound lanes to one between 4th Avenue S and Ellis Avenue S to slow drivers;

  • A two-way protected bike lane between S River Street and Corson Avenue S;

  • A signalized bike crossing at River Street,

  • An 11-foot wide shared use path on north side of street between Corson Avenue S and Ellis Avenue S.
